AI Strategy

AI strategy that starts with your business, not the technology.

Every software company is pitching you AI. Your competitors are posting about it. But nobody's running an honest AI readiness assessment or telling you what actually matters for your business. That's where I come in.

Jeremy Buff — Technology Strategist

I'm Jeremy Buff, and I've spent 20+ years building technology for businesses of all sizes. I don't sell software or push platforms. I sit down with you, learn how your business runs, and figure out where AI actually makes sense. No pitch decks, no jargon.

The problem isn't that you're behind on AI. It's that nobody's being straight with you.

You're running a business. You don't have time to evaluate 50 AI tools, read 20 blog posts a week, or sit through sales demos that promise the moon. You need someone who'll look at your actual business and tell you what's real and what's noise.

"We should be using AI but I don't know where to start"

You know AI is changing things, but every article you read makes it sound more complicated. You need a starting point that makes sense for your business, not a 50-page strategy document.

"I tried ChatGPT but couldn't make it stick"

You signed up, played with it for a week, and then went back to doing things the old way. The tool wasn't the problem. The missing piece was a plan for how it fits into what you actually do every day.

"Every vendor says their tool is AI-powered now"

Suddenly everything has "AI" slapped on it. But most of it is just marketing. You need someone who can separate the tools that'll actually help from the ones that are riding the hype.

"I'm worried about falling behind my competitors"

You see other businesses in your space talking about AI and wonder if you're missing something. The truth? Most of them are just as confused as you. A clear plan puts you ahead.

If any of that sounds familiar, you're exactly who I work with.

I don't sell AI. I help you figure out if, where, and how it makes sense.

Here's what working with me looks like.

I'm not going to show up with a slide deck full of buzzwords. I'll sit down with you, learn how your business works, and give you a straight answer about where AI can help. Sometimes the answer is "everywhere." Sometimes it's "two specific things." Sometimes it's "not yet, and here's why."

Either way, you'll walk away knowing exactly what to do next, instead of guessing.

What I cover:

  • Where AI fits (and where it doesn't)

I look at your workflows, your tools, and your team to find the real opportunities, not the theoretical ones.

  • Which tools are worth your money

No vendor bias. I'll tell you what to buy, what to skip, and what you can do for free.

  • What to do first

A clear, prioritized plan so you're not trying to boil the ocean. Start with the thing that gets you the biggest win fastest.

  • How to get your team on board

AI only works if your people use it. I'll help you introduce tools in a way that sticks.

  • Ongoing guidance as things evolve

The AI landscape changes fast. I keep an eye on what's new and relevant so you don't have to.

Common questions about AI consulting

What is an AI readiness assessment and does my business need one?
An AI readiness assessment evaluates your current tools, workflows, data practices, and team capabilities to determine where AI can realistically help. If your business uses digital tools, has repeatable processes, and your team spends time on pattern-based tasks, you're likely ready. The assessment gives you a clear starting point instead of guessing.
I tried an AI tool and it didn't work. Is AI just not for my business?
That's one of the most common things I hear. Usually the problem isn't AI itself. It's that the tool wasn't the right fit, or it was set up without a clear plan for how it plugs into your daily work. A quick look at what went wrong usually reveals a much better path forward.
How much does this cost?
It depends on what you need. A focused strategy session to get clarity on your options is a one-time investment. Ongoing advisory for businesses actively implementing AI works on a monthly basis. I'll always be upfront about what something costs before we commit to anything. No surprises.
Do you also help implement the recommendations?
Absolutely. I don't just hand you a plan and wish you luck. If you need help building and deploying what we discuss, I offer business automation and AI implementation services to see it through. Most of my strategy clients end up working with me on implementation too.
I'm not very technical. Will I understand what you're recommending?
That's the whole point. I work with business owners, not engineers. Everything I recommend is explained in plain language with a clear "here's what it does for you" attached. If I can't explain it simply, I haven't thought about it enough.
Is AI consulting worth it for a small business?
Small businesses often benefit the most from AI advisory services because the right guidance prevents wasted spending on tools that don't fit. A focused session typically pays for itself by steering you toward the highest-impact opportunities and away from expensive mistakes. You don't need a big budget to get started; you need a clear plan.

Not sure where to start with AI? That's exactly what I help with.

Let's have a real conversation about your business. I'll give you an honest take on where AI fits and a clear idea of what to do next.

No pressure, no pitch deck. Just an honest conversation about your goals.
